OneSearch AI Assistant

Tips for Use

  • Ask clear, focused questions for best results.
The AI Assistant works most effectively when your question is specific and related to academic or scientific topics. Vague or overly broad queries may lead to less useful suggestions.

  • Remember that the five suggested sources are only a starting point.
To explore more materials on your topic, select “View more results from your library search.” This opens a full OneSearch results page where you can browse everything available through the library.

  • Try again if the results don’t match what you need.
Using the “Try again” button will generate a new set of recommendations. Because the tool uses generative AI, you may see slightly different results each time, which can help you discover additional sources or angles.

  • Provide feedback to help improve the tool.
Use the thumbs-up or thumbs-down buttons below the summary to let the system know whether the response was helpful. Your feedback supports ongoing improvements to the AI Assistant.

Limitations

  • You can’t request specific source types within the AI Assistant.
If your assignment requires certain kinds of sources—such as peer-reviewed articles or items published within a particular date range—click “View more results from your library search.” In the full OneSearch interface, you can apply filters to limit your results by format, date, peer-review status, and more.

  • Follow-up questions are not supported.
The OneSearch AI Assistant cannot refine results through a conversational back-and-forth. However, it does provide AI-generated follow-up research questions you can use as new prompts.

  • Verify the information it provides.
Like any AI tool, the Assistant may occasionally misunderstand your question or summarize sources inaccurately. You should always double-check information provided by the AI Assistant's overview by reviewing the actual sources provided.
