Canvas and the Library

Demonstrations on how to embed different library resources into Canvas

What is Alexander Street (aka Academic Video Online/AVON)?

Alexander Street is a multidisciplinary streaming video database with more than 62,000 titles curated for higher education. It includes a range of scholarly video material including: documentaries, interviews, performances, news programs and newsreels, field recordings, commercials, demonstrations, original and raw footage. Like our other databases, it can be found on the Library's A-Z database page, and will require a login to access from off-campus.

However, Alexander Street video is easily embedded in Canvas. Read on to learn how....

Adding Alexander Street videos to Canvas

In your Canvas Rich Text Editor, there should be a small icon that reads “Apps” when you hover over it. It looks like a plug. Click the icon, open the menu, and look for Alexander Street Video (the list is alphabetical, so it should be near the top).

Hint: If this your first time first time accessing Alexander Street, you will need to click "View All."
