July is Disability Pride Month!

Pierce Library invites you to join us in celebrating Disability Pride Month!

We commemorate Disability Pride Month every July in the United States to celebrate the disability community's history and accomplishments, and to help combat the social stigma, ableism, and barriers to access that affect people living with disabilities in our society. Disability Pride Month is observed in July to commemorate the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26th 1990, a landmark disability rights achievement that expanded equitable access to public spaces and prohibited discrimination based on disability. Approximately 1 in 4 adults in the U.S. live with some type of disability, making people with disabilities the largest and most diverse minority in the United States.

This month is a time to honor the decades of activism and civil disobedience that made the ADA's passage possible, uplift voices within the disability community, and work towards alternate futures where everyone can access the care and resources they need to live a full life. Learn more about the Disability Rights Movement.
